Marine Science Week in Lānaʻi
This spring, the lab wrapped up a year-long research project led by PhD candidate Zack Rago exploring how Marine Life Conservation Districts (MLCDs) shape fish behavior across the Hawaiian Islands.
A cornerstone of this project has been our fieldwork in Huloʻpoe Bay, Lānaʻi, where we’ve been incredibly fortunate to build strong partnerships with the local community. Over the past year, the Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi has generously supported our research efforts, helping us connect with both visitors and residents through hands-on marine science experiences.
This culminated in an unforgettable Science Week at the resort. The week featured nightly lectures by lab members and local marine experts, community tidepool walks, guided snorkels and whale watches aboard resort vessels, and a special screening of Chasing Coral at the Hale Keaka Lānaʻi Theatre.
We’re grateful to the Lānaʻi City community and to the many resort guests who joined us in learning more about Huloʻpoe Bay. To learn more about the research and highlights from Marine Science Week, check out the full article in Lānaʻi Today!
